Tyre Pressure Calculator – Trailer

This calculator is designed to provide you with suggested minimum and maximum tyre pressures along with minimum and maximum tow ball weights according to the weights declared on the trailers compliance plate.

To use this calculator, you only need the TARE and GTM values from the trailers compliance plate, along with the trailers tyre load specifications (see below)

We recommend using this calculator as a guide until you can complete a proper weighing of your vehicle and trailer. Once actual weights are known, you can use our Complete Towing Calculator to generate a complete towing report.

Identify and record the load ratings from the tyre sidewalls of your trailer (see photo below)

This tyre has a load rating of 1550kg @ 80psi
(use the “SINGLE” tyre rating)

Notes on tyre load ratings; not all tyres are the same, the load rating on your trailer tyres may be quite different to your tow vehicle. Use the load rating for SINGLE (see photo above for clarification). The DUAL rating is for axles with dual tyres on each end of the axle (ie. 4 tyres on one axle) and our calculators are not designed for that configuration.

That’s it, now simply enter your records into the calculator to see minimum and maximum tyre pressures calculated specifically for your trailer and tyre combination. If you would like a report including ball weights (TBM), simply enter your Name and Email then click the “Email Full Report” button to receive the report via email.

Thank you so much Aus Camping for this calculator; it is the most helpful thing I have found yet……having never been given any decent advice at any tyre shop, like ever…..sad, but true.

        Hi Bush Baby,

You’re welcome, it’s something we are passionate about as we see many caravans on the road that are handling poorly (sometimes dangerously) and it often comes down to incorrect tyre pressure. Even what’s written on the compliance plates of many trailer brands, is far from safe or ideal pressure.

Fortunately, people are slowly becoming more aware and we were pleased to see a recently published article by RAC which very much supported everything we have been promoting about correct tyre pressure to load calculations.
